Earlier today we’ve witnessed the debut ofGalaxy Alpha, the long-rumored Samsung smartphone with metallic frame. Now we are back with some news (read rumors) about a phablet that will join Samsung’s line-up in the near future. No it’s not the highly-anticipated Galaxy Note 4, the handset that will see the light of day early September at IFA 2014. It looks like Sammy is also readying a successor for its Galaxy Mega. Previous rumors have indicated that the next-gen Galaxy Mega will sport a 6-inch screen, and now we get to look at Mega 2 for the first time.
The leaked photos (gallery below) were discovered by the folks at Phone Arena in China’s Telecommunications Equipment Certification Center database. Besides the leaked photos, the publication also revealed more details about the technical specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2. It’s worth noting that both the photos and specs revealed by Phone Arena are for the SM-G7508Q model which is compatible with China’s TD-LTE standard. Anyway, we strongly believe that the Chinese Mega 2 will be identical to the international model in terms of technical specifications.
If the report is to be believed, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 will be underpinned by a 64-bit-enabled Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, paired with 2 GB of RAM. The technical specifications list also includes 5 MP user-facing camera, 13 MP primary camera with LED flash, 8 GB of native storage, microSD support, and a 6-inch display with HD (1280 x 720) resolution. The smartphone will reportedly run Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box. It seems that, this time, Samsung will only release a 6-inch Galaxy Mega model, unlike last year when 5.8- and 6.3-inch were launched.
Unfortunately, there’s no way to verify the veracity of the report, therefore we are advising you to take it with a pinch of salt. Anyway, if the specs prove to be the real deal, then the Galaxy Mega 2 will be a significant upgrade from its predecessor. As you can see in the gallery below, Mega will also bring a more premium design, sporting a faux-leather back that is a reminiscent of the one used for last year’s Galaxy Note 3.
