Five new Amazon devices were officially unveiled today. Besides the new devices, Amazon also announced an update for Fire OS. Called Fire OS 4 or Sangria, the new version of Amazon’s Android-based operating system will come pre-loaded on some of the new devices and it will be released for older models later this year.
The Fire HDX 8.9 is undoubtedly the most powerful of the three new Fire OS 4-powered tablets announced by Amazon today. In fact, the Fire HDX is one of the most powerful Android tablets around.
The 8.9-inch screen of the new tablet has a resolution of 2560 x 1600, while the processing tasks are handled by a Snapdragon 805 SoC based on four Krait 450 cores clocked at 2.5 GHz and an Adreno 420 GPU. The new tablet also comes with an 8 MP primary shooter, 16/32/64 GB of native storage, and MIMO WiFi with support form download speeds of up to 600 Mbps. It also has dual stereo speakers with new Dolby Digital Atmos and Amazon’s Mayday service. The Fire HDX 8.9 will be available in WiFi-only and WiFi+LTE variants.
Amazon announced that the new Fire HDX will become available for purchase starting October 21. Anyway, you will be able to pre-order it from Amazon’s website right away using the following link. The cheapest Fire HDX 8.9 variant has a price of $379 and brings 16 GB storage and WiFi-only connectivity, while the most expensive model (WiFi+LTE and 64 GB storage) is priced at $579.
