After having announced its latest Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge at IFA, Samsung is aiming to please its customers in Europe further by bringing its Galaxy S5 Active rugged smartphone to Europe. SamMobile’s sources have revealed that the Galaxy S5 Active smartphone will soon be available to buyers in Europe, although no specific time-frame has been mentioned.

The Galaxy S5 Active was announced earlier this year as an exclusive to AT&T in the US market. It was marketed as a truly rugged smartphone that can take on anything you can throw at it. The device comes with MIL-STD-810G certification, meaning military grade protection against all the extremes of nature. Unlike the normal Galaxy S5 which only provides dust and water resistance, the Galaxy S5 Active goes a level beyond, making it the perfect companion for an outdoor lifestyle and not having to worry about getting your smartphone damaged along the way. It also comes with a unique mode that instantly launches compasses and maps in one screen.

For Europe, the Galaxy S5 Active will be offered in two colors – Silver and Green. The retail price of the handset has apparently been decided to be around €629. That does seem quite steep though, with the Galaxy S5 now being available for about €500 across most of Europe. So we sure do hope that price will be revised or drop soon after launch.

Apart from the rugged qualities, the Galaxy S5 Active is very similar to its not-so-rugged sibling. It comes with the same 5.1 inch 1920 x 1080 Super AMOLED display with 16 million colors, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 2.5GHz, 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM with microSD card support, 16MP rear camera with 4K Ultra HD video recording, 2MP front-facing camera, 2800mAh battery, LTE connectivity, IP67 dust and water resistance certified, heart-rate sensor, barometer sensor, geomagnetic sensor, and S-Health app suite. The only major feature that it is missing, is the fingerprint scanner from the S5. But you have to make some trade-off for the ultimate durability you can find on a smartphone.
