The best data security – SecureDrives’ self-destructing SSDs

Looking for a good way to protect your private or sensitive data? There is all kinds of software and hardware solutions for keeping information away from strange eyes. We have never seen anything like SecureDrives’ solid state drives, though.
 Security

Much like in some sort of James Bond movie, the Autothysis 128s and Autothysis 128t can literally self-destruct. This can be done on command or via user-defined situations. The most novel feature is probably these have GSM capabilities.
These SSDs can receive text message, meaning you can literally send a text to your hard drive and order it to self-destruct itself. Lost your company’s laptop? No problem – send your hard drive a text message. The NAND flash chips and security controller will be deemed unusable.

But that is not the only way to destroy these drives. Let’s go over some of the other 007 features SecureDrives SSDs tout.

How to trigger SecureDrives self-destruction

  • SMS, of course.
  • When PIN or password retries exceed a certain number.
  • Opening the driver case.
  • If battery falls below a certain level (of your choice), the drive is destroyed.
  • If the drive doesn’t have signal for a period of time (defined by the user), it is destroyed.
  • Removing the SSD will also trigger self-destruction.
  • Tap-to-Destroy: Token can be programmed with a tap signature. If the tap signature is replicated, the Drive will self-destroy.
Impressive, right? Those who want to sign up for one of these will have to pay a very pretty penny. The Autothysis 128s costs £967 ($1545), while the Autothysis 123t costs a whopping £1027 ($1640).

Both come with a year of GSM service. The service will cost £29 per year, after that. The main difference between the two devices is that the 128t comes with a token, a device used to control all the settings. Those who purchase an Autothysis 128s will have to use a smartphone app.
Encryption, passwords and locks are simply not enough sometimes, right? Who is thinking of signing up for one of these? Your files and info must be amazingly important!
