Android 5.0.1 Lollipop Update for Nexus 4 and Nexus 6 Should Start Rolling out Soon

Android 5.0.1 Lollipop Update for Nexus 4 and Nexus 6 Should Start Rolling out Soon

Get your phones ready folks, the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update for Nexus 4 and Nexus 6  should start rolling out in the next couple of hours. As you may know already, early this month Google released Android 5.0.1 for Nexus 7, Nexus 9, and Nexus 10 and now it’s time for Nexus 4 and Nexus 6 to get some 5.0.1 love.
How do we know that the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update for Nexus 4 and Nexus 6 is on the verge of hitting your device? Well, it’s because Google has uploaded the 5.0.1 factory image for the two aforementioned smartphones. This is a clear sign that the OTA roll out is right around the corner.
Of course, the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update for Nexus 4 and Nexus 6 will be rolled out in stages, which means that some of you would have to wait longer than others before being able to download and install it. Anyway, you would also be able to force the update using the OTA ZIPs once they are made available for download. Least, but not last, you will also be able to install the Android 5.0.1 on your device using factory images, but your data will be wiped in the process. Of course, there’s a workaround for the full wipe. All you need to do is delete the “-w” flag from the ‘flash-all.bat’ script, but it doesn’t work all the time. For the time being we can’t confirm whether this workaround works for the Android 5.0.1 update for Nexus 4 and Nexus 6.
At the moment, we can’t really tell you want to expect from the Nexus 4 and Nexus 6 Android 5.0.1 update since there’s no official changelog available. Anyway, many Nexus 4 users have complained about a laggy Phone app and poor battery life, and this update should fix that. Since it’s just a minor update, it will mostly be about improving the overall system performance and about fixing some bugs.
In case you don’t want to wait until the OTA update becomes available for your device, you can download the Nexus 4 and Nexus 6 Android 5.0.1 factory images from here and here, respectively. If you don’t know how to flash them to your smartphone, then you can return to this article in a couple of hours when it will be updated with tutorials that will teach you how to do it.
