New Droid Turbo Android 4.4.4 Update Now Available for Verizon Users
Motorola’s Droid Turbo is without a doubt one of the most powerful smartphones currently on the market. Because it’s a member of the Droid family, the device is sold exclusively through Verizon’s network. Big Red announce today that a new Droid Turbo Android 4.4.4 update is now being pushed to users.
Even though everyone is expecting Droid Turbo to get updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop, the new software update it’s still an Android 4.4.4 build. Since the handset runs Android 4.4.4 out of the box, all the KitKat-specific goodies such as transparent status and nav bars, white status bar icons, full screen album and movie art, revamped Location menu, color emoji support, cloud printing, or immersive mode came pre-loaded, therefore the new update is not bringing any major changes.
According to Verizon’s support PDF, the new Droid Turbo Android 4.4.4 update arrives to prepare the handset for the new Advanced Calling 1.0 feature which allows you to use Voice and Data simultaneously. It also brings device stability fixes and security updates and the Email Attached has been moved to top for better visibility.
The new software update is being rolled out in phases, which means that some users will not be able to download and install it right away. Once your device becomes eligible to receive the new firmware you should be able to notice a system update message in the notifications bar. Tap on it then follow the on-screen instructions. Alternatively, you can perform a manual check under Settings > About phone > System updates > Check now.
It’s also worth noting that the new firmware is labelled 21.44.8.quark_verizon.verizon.en.US. Unfortunately, Verizon failed to reveal the size of the update file, but we are recommending to download it through a stable WiFi network so you won’t damage your data plan.
