Qualcomm Rubbishes Recent Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 Delay Rumor

Last week a report published on Business Korea claimed that Qualcomm was experiencing troubles with its latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipsets and as a results, the 2015 flagship devices like the Samsung Galaxy S6, LG G4 and the Sony Xperia Z4 could be see major delays. Today, Qualcomm decided that it needed to allay all fears caused by this report and has made it clear that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset will become available by the first half of next year and there is no delay whatsoever.
Jon Carvill, Qualcomm Senior Director of Public Relations toldFudzilla that they were not experiencing any difficulties with the production of the next-gen Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chip and that the first devices with the chipset are still expected to become available by early next year. That’s definitely great news for all of you out there who are expecting to upgrade to a 2015 flagship with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset. Most 2015 flagship devices including the ones from Sony, Samsung, LG, Motorola and HTC are expected to sport the latest Qualcomm chip which is the first high-end 64-bit compatible chipset from Qualcomm manufactured on a 20nm process and uses ARMv8-A instruction set.
The report from last week had claimed that Qualcomm was experiencing troubles with the Snapdragon 810 processor overheating during heavy workload and problems were reported with the chip’s memory controller and the GPU drivers as well. Major OEMs like Samsung, Sony and LG were reported to be considering switching to the Snapdragon 805 chip instead or just face massive delays and postpone the launch of their flagship devices to the second half of next year. Samsung could have managed well in such a scenario as the company could use its Exynos 7 64-bit chipset instead of the Snapdragon 810 in all variants. But the other OEMs like LG and Sony would definitely have been in a difficult situation as neither of the two companies manufacture high-end mobile chipsets. LG did announce their first chipset – NUCLUN, but it is not suitable for implementation on a flagship 2015 smartphone.
The clarification from Qualcomm might not necessarily mean that the report by Business Korea was completely inaccurate though. There might be issues currently that Qualcomm believes will be sorted out very soon and not affect the mass production of the chipset. For now, we would definitely want to believe Qualcomm as the idea of 2015 flagship smartphones running the same Snapdragon 805 chipset as the recently launched high-end devices is quite sad. The Snapdragon 805 is a major leap forward over the Snapdragon 801 only in terms of its graphics horsepower. The application performance is pretty much the same as Qualcomm Snapdragon 801. Snapdragon 810 on the other hand brings 64-bit architecture to flagship devices and is also an octa-core part with a combination of quad-core 2.0GHz Cortex A57 and quad-core Cortex A53 1.6GHz clusters. The new Adreno 430 GPU is also a beast, and offers up to 30% higher graphics performance and up to 100% faster GPGPU compute performance compared to the Adreno 420 GPU on Snapdragon 805 chipset.
