After Poland, Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.0.1 Lollipop Update Arrives In South Korea
Samsung surprised us by rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Galaxy S5 this past week in Poland for the G900F variant. Now the largest Android OEM has started pushing out the Android 5.0 update to consumers in its home country of South Korea. The rollout began on Friday and is expected to become available for all Galaxy S5 smartphones in the country by this week. The update is being pushed out to all three carrier variants in South Korea – KT, SK Telecom and LG Uplus.
The build number of the update for the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is the same for all the three carrier variants – G900KKTU1BNL2. As far as features go, it should all be pretty similar to the Android 5.0.1 update that we have seen on the G900F European variants. The update is being pushed out via Samsung KIES PC software as well as OTA. If you’re a little impatient and would want to try out the update right away, you can also download the firmware for the G900K model from SamMobile’s firmware download page.
The Android 5.0 Lollipop brings several new changes and improvements like the redesigned Samsung TouchWiz UX with Material Design guidelines, redesigned app icons and Samsung apps, performance boost thanks to the switch to ART runtime, improved battery life, improved security features, new notification layout, improvements to the fingerprint recognition, and a new clipboard tool.
Now that two regions have received the Android 5.0 Lollipop update already, we can expect more regions to receive the Android Lollipop update in the coming weeks. Unsurprisingly, Samsung hasn’t detailed its Lollipop update plans yet, so it’s just a guessing game now on which region or which particular variant of the Galaxy S5 will receive the update next. However, French carrier SFR did post an Android update schedule roadmap recently that lists the Galaxy Note 4 and other Samsung Galaxy high-end devices are expected to get updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop only in January.
Samsung’s Android 5.0 Lollipop update has been pretty much as expected but unfortunately TouchWiz seems to be as heavy as ever even with the Android 5.0 Lollipop. We were expecting to see some major changes with the Android Lollipop update, but unfortunately it looks like performance will still be compromised when compared to other devices with similar hardware specifications.
