Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket Software Update
Remember the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket? Yes, that’s right, it was AT&T’s first LTE-capable phone. Even though the smartphone was released more than three years ago, it’s now getting updated with a new software.
Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket has seen the light of day running Gingerbread, then it was updated to Ice Cream Sandwich, and, about one year and a half ago, it got updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. That was the last OTA update for Skyrocket.
Now, out of nowhere, Samsung revealed that AT&T’s Galaxy S2 Skyrocket is ready to receive a new software update. Unfortunately, the new build is still based on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and the vague changelog only lists “Android OS Enhancements” for the new I727UCNJ1 update. Anyway, a software update for a three-year old Android smartphone is not something you see everyday.
As usual, you will be dealing with a staged roll out, which means some of you will have to wait longer than others. You know the drill, after you see the system update notification tap on it, then follow the on-screen instructions. You can also check for the update manually under Settings > More > About device. You also have the option to check for the update via KIES, who knows, maybe you will get luckier with this method.
The software update is rather small, having a size of only 12.6 MB, so don’t expect it to bring any major changes. 12.6 MB won’t do any major damages to your data plan, so downloading the update file using a WiFi network is not mandatory.
