Nexus 4 Android 5.0.1 Lollipop OTA Zip Update Available for Installation

Google has released the official Android 5.0.1 LRX22C OTA zip file and now you can use it to upgrade your Nexus 4 to the latest Lollipop build. This release comes after only several hours since the launch of the Android 5.0.1 LRX22C factory imageand, if you don’t want to wait for the OTA Update zip file to arrive, then you can use the OTA zip file and “adb sideload” it.

Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update comes with several changes and improvements. It measures somewhere around 15 MB and it is a small update, it doesn’t add any new major changes nor features. There is no official changelog for Android 5.0.1 LRX22C and it has already been pushed out for the Nexus 6, too. The only smartphone that hasn’t received this new firmware bump is the Google Nexus 5 smartphone.

Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA Update was issued for the Nexus 4 a month ago and it was the biggest upgrades that we’ve seen released for this device. Lollipop will most probably be the final OS Upgrade that the Nexus 4 will see released for it, since it will three years old in the autumn of 2015. That’s when Google might possibly come up with a brand new Android OS version.

NOTE: that guide is destined for the previous Android 5.0 LRX21T firmware, but it works with the new firmware, too. We will upgrade the tutorial soon.

Update your Nexus 4 phones and report back if you find any major changes that we’ve missed while testing it on our Nexus 4. If you don’t want to wait until Google pushes the OTA Update LRX22C to your Nexus 4, then you need to know that you should be an advanced user. Installing an OTA zip file manually is done using “adb sideload” and the “apply update from ADB” option from your Recovery folder.
